Intern’s Name: Maxime Garcia
Masters in Advanced Structural Engineering
Internship: Accsys Technologies , Postgraduate Timber Engineering Scholarship Programme

Postgraduate Timber Engineering Scholarship Programme

Maxime Garcia graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Civil and Timber Engineering from Edinburgh Napier University in 2014, and succeeded in securing a scholarship from Accsys Technologies to support him through study for a Masters in Advanced Structural Engineering as part of the University’s Postgraduate Timber Engineering Scholarship Programme.

Making the most of every opportunity he had at Edinburgh Napier to further his career prospects, Max jumped at the chance to undertake a summer internship with CarbonLite Design and Build (CLDB, now known as Carbon Dynamic), a timber construction company in Invergordon, just north of Inverness. Following this successful work placement, Max was offered full-time employment with Carbon Dynamic as Project Engineer; and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Manager, and is pursuing study for his Masters at Edinburgh Napier University by Distance Learning.

“In Maxime we have had the opportunity to work with a proactive student who is well supported by academic staff. The result for Accsys has been stronger links with experts at the university and new links to timber construction companies which create prospects for our products.”

Paul Clegg, CEO of Accsys Technologies

“Maxime adds value to our design team, and the calibre and capabilities of this candidate are impressive. Maxime is working for us whilst undertaking the MSc Advanced Structural Engineering at Napier part-time, supported by a postgraduate scholarship from Accsys Technologies. It is clear that the quality of the studying at Edinburgh Napier is first class and the ability of their students to integrate into industry is of huge value to the businesses involved.”

Matt Stevenson, Director of Carbon Dynamic

“Since receiving the scholarship from Accsys Technologies, we have agreed a really interesting MSc dissertation subject, and I have started to conduct a literature review on the product Accoya. Accoya is a compelling product and an answer to durability and sustainability. In my current role at Carbon Dynamic, we are using Accoya on the affordable social housing project which I am currently in charge of. It is rewarding to be doing my dissertation around a real work-based project, and I am extremely grateful to Accsys Technologies for providing financial support.”
